When Onosato and Hoshoryu et al stepped onto the clay at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October 2025, it was the first time in three decades that the Japan Sumo Association had held an exhibition in Europe.
Now, just ten months later, the JSA is preparing to head back to The Old Continent — this time for a two-day jungyō (regional tour)-style event in Paris on June 13 and 14.
And while that’s shorter than last year’s five-day long sojourn to England, and the lead up to the event has been much lower profile than for London, there is a possibility that, in the long run, it may prove the more impactful and strategically important of sumo’s two recent European exhibitions.
