Tokyo’s “Little India” has weathered a tough couple of years.
Nishikasai in eastern Edogawa Ward offers relatively easy access to business districts such as Otemachi via the Tozai Line, making it a practical base for Indian IT professionals who relocated to Japan in the early 2000s.
By the end of the decade, it was home to 10% of Japan’s Indian population and had all the makings of a major cultural hub. The influx led to the opening of Indian restaurants, grocery stores, specialty clothing shops and an international school.
